Open in editorThe dual charging system combines solar and alternator charging for maximum energy harvest. A 200W solar panel feeds through an MPPT controller, while the vehicle's alternator connects through a DC-DC charger. Both charge a 200Ah lithium house battery, which distributes power through a bus bar to lights and a fridge.
The DC-DC charger is essential — it isolates the house battery from the starter battery, prevents voltage drops, and provides a proper charging profile for lithium batteries. The bus bar serves as a central distribution point for the positive connections, keeping the wiring clean and organized. This is the most popular setup for serious van builds and overlanding rigs.
